Barry Zito, a starting pitcher for the San Francisco Giants, was in a car accident on Wednesday in West Hollywood. The accident, which took place on Sunset Plaza Drive and Sunset Boulevard, sent Zito to the hospital. Thankfully, he was released from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center shortly after he was examined. Police say Zito wasn’t at fault in the accident.
It’s unknown at this point whether or not Zito will miss any starts following the car accident. He’s the fourth starter for the Giants and was previously expected to pitch over the upcoming weekend.
Last season, Zito was 9-14 with a 4.15 ERA. Since signing a $126 million deal to join the Giants, the former Cy Young Award winner with the Oakland A’s has been a disappointment.
The Giants begin their 2011 season today against the Los Angeles Dodgers. San Francisco is the reigning World Series champions.
