Best 1st sport bike.?

I'm looking for my first bike and I got it down to a kawasaki ninja 250r and a ninja 500r. I have never actually driven a crotch rocket before, but I do know the basics of driving one. I am a fairly skilled driver,I drive a sports car with a 6spd, so driving with a clutch and shifting gears would no be weird for me. I just would want to know if a ninja 500r would be to beastly for a beginner to handle, or I can learn on it without killing myself.
 
I'd say a good first sport bike would be a Yamaha TZR 125, I've got one and love it
 
please dont start with a 250.... a perfect starter bike would be either a ninja 500 or 600 or a yamaha 600... they are smaller and lighter but once mastered you can easily progress to a 750 or larger
