I've always been into the bittersweet ones- short series(13 - 60 episodes)- but gets you addicted. I like it when they have some filler episodes(Character development), but after a few they get to the main plot and just bring you along for the ride- leaving you with a face covered in snot and tears. I like happy ending- but ones that'll really make you cry because it's so sad as well! A few I've watched are:
Elfien Lied (Left me with tears in my eyes and a good drop off- pleases all fans)
Mai-otome 0~sifr (Not particularly sad- just the OVA of Mai-Otome really.)
Mai-otome (Good character development and leads you into the plot slowly- left me with watery eyes. Inspirational).
Mai-hime (I was crying- happy cry though! Really inspirational.)
Chrono Crusade (Bawling my eyes out. Wonderful character development in the first few ep- then to the point, Answers questions.
)
Eden of the East (Not really bittersweet- just more of a sad ending. Slowly learning his past and what he did...)
FMA (Crying tears! I haven't seen all the episodes however I've seen the important ones. To which I know the plot and fills in blanks.)
Ghost Hunt (Not bittersweet- one episode scary- leaves you with a settled drop. Keeps you thinking.)
Eureka Seven (BAWLED! I loved it! Completely bittersweet! TwT Very inspirational as well.)
Blood + (Bawled- well a little less then that. Gets right to the point- inspirational.)
Oban-Star Racers (More of a happy/touching/sad ending. Didn't cry- although seriously sad it was over.)
Orgin Spirits of the past (Shed a tear and made me want to do something to help the planet)
Princess mononoke (Made me want to do something to help the planet.)
Spirited Away (Made me want to do something to help the planet)
Claymore (Left me wanting more- more of a Good-For-you! Stand-up-to-those-jerks kind of ending.)
Fooly Cooly (Teary eyes-made me want to cry...)
Gakuen Alice (Manga- Bawled.)
And others in which I do not remember the names of-
I also do not mind the feeling of loss and emptiness after finishing a series. (I get that a lot like Now-What-Am-I-Going-To-Do-With-My-Life? type of feeling then your depressed for a few days because you can't find anything that was that good, and so on. Comedy is good- But I don't want stupid comedy. Like ecchi and just stupid stuff. Action is wanted- but nothing like Bleach or Naruto or Inuyasha. I personally hate Bleach and Naruto. They are to long. (Inuyasha I am biased because it was the first anime I had ever seen knowing it was anime. >>) Obviously I want to get attached to the characters- and uhm I don't know what else to say. Hmm. Well that's all I can think of- Thank you for reading this and answering!
