i am making a best man speech this weekend and need some help with a joke about how the bride and not the groom asked me to be best man.
I was thinking something like "tradition wasn't on the cards today and it was in fact annie who asked me to be best man. i humbly accepted and but at the time did think wow, you're not married yet and shes already making the decisions." but this seems a bit harsh on the bride. Any other ideas?

Before you write any jokes into your toast, ask yourself:

"Is this cheesy?"
"Is this offensive?"
"Will this appeal to a wide audience including great-aunt Bertha?"

This one doesn't pass the test.

PS: You are looking to write a brief toast, not a speech.

"Before I get started, I'd like to tell you a story about my arm. It's quite humerus."

Note this user appears to be from Australia where the best man traditionally gives a speech lasting a few minutes.

You could try to turn it around and say that he is already showing great wisdom in deferring to his wife. But even then, I'm not sure. It is ok, even normal, for the best man to poke gentle fun at the groom. But not the bride. Only be complimentary to her. Leave any jokes about her for the bride's father (or whoever's giving a speech from her side).

without knowing your friends its a sensitive question... people usually like to cry at weddings for sentimental reasons, not from laughing lol. they (well annie) asked you to be the best man for a reason though so go with your gut. i can kind of hear crickets though... but that is odd, why wouldnt he ask his own best man? maybe if you re-word 'already making the decisions' to something that sounds not so serious like shes bossy, but rather like 'girl power' ish.

"at the time i thought, gotta love Annie, not even married yet and she's got everything under control!"

hmmm... im not even a huge fan of that lol. you try it! make sure to follow it with something sweet though.
