I got a older movie of mine out and it freezes like crazy so what do you suggest is the best cleaning method? I heard of things such as toothpaste , chapstick and also a banana. Thanks!
If you go to a game shop or somewhere where they sell movies you can ask them to polish the disc up. They place it in a machine and remove all the micro scratches and it may help fix the problem. If Not I'd say but it again.

Blue ray movies have a feature on them so it's very hard to damage the disc so you would never experience this problem on blue ray. Hope I helped!
It depends how deep and where the scratch is. A scratch on the title label is much worse than a scratch on the optical side. If all methods are tried and at least a couple of dvd players (including PC dvd-rom) still failed to play it then it's damaged beyond cleaning. If you really loved the movie and buying a new one is out of the option, then downloading it from torrent sites could be an alternative. You can choose the quality you like, save it in your hard drive or burn it to a disc. But then again doing it has legal issues.
