I'm going on a weekend vacation in the morning. And I only remembered that someone would need to feed my betta fish this night. If I can't find someone to feed him I have two options.

Give him a larger portion of food just before I leave and hope he is okay when I come home 1.5 days later. (I really don't want to do this, that would be starving my fish, who ALWAYS does his "im very hungry" swim/dance when I open his lid. So cute)

Buy one of those 3 day time release feeders. The only problem there is I live in a small town. There is a pet shop, but I don't know when it opens, and I also don't know if they have time release feeders specifically for betta fish. I'm 99.5% sure that Walmart or shopko will have a time release feeder but just for freshwater fish.

I've read that betta fish are picky eaters. So should I go buy one of those regular fish time release feeders? (that dissolve in water) Will it hurt my betta fish? Will he eat it?

Well I hope my neighbor won't mind me imposing on her, but just in case, I want to be prepared for a bad scenario

actually, your best option is to feed him regularly before you go and let him go without food for the weekend.

fish are NOT like us, in the wild they often go without food for a while, and a weekend fast would actually be GOOD for him. my fish went without food while I was on a 5 day vacation and they will again in a few weeks and they are all perfectly fine.

if you neighbour can feed him, that's fine. but DON'T feed him extra, this can cause constipation and extra waste. and don't use a feeder block. they make the tank filthy and you'll most likely come home to a dead fish.

Fish are fine for weeks without food. Your betta will not even miss the feedings while you are gone. Some people give bettas a "fasting day" once a week to clear out their digestive system to avoid constipation. Just don't feed him. Don't feed him extra, since that dirties the water (and I don't mean extra food floating around, I mean from the waste he will produce!!) and you want his water as clean as possible. He REALLY won't mind, I promise!

As for the feeder blocks, they are more likely to make the water very dirty while you are away, and if the betta finds it, he may gorge himself on it, which isn't good!

Don't do anything. 1.5 days is nothing. Many people purposely 'fast' their fish to help the digestive system and prevent constipation by not feeding them for a day. Never buy a betta a feeder block, he will most likely ignore it and it will rot in the tank making water conditions horrible.

No he won't die or anything, they can last over a week just feed him right before you go.

Just feed your Betta the minute before you leave. Fish can live without food for 5-7 days before dieing. If you feed him before your leave he will be fine. The 3 day blocks make your tank do dirty.
Hope this helps!
Good Luck!
