Blackberry Apps using EDGE and not Wi-Fi?

Hi everyone, I recently got a blackberry curve 8520, and I've downloaded a few apps for it through the WAP browser (twitter, facebook, app world) but when I try to launch them, they say the can't connect to the internet, I imagine this is because they have to use Wi-Fi, but since I have an EDGE connection too, I'd like to see if I can get them to work with that connection and not wifi. Is there a way?
