BlackBerry Storm not making Umlauts!!?

I know how to make umlauts on a blackberry storm, lightly keep your finger over the a to make ä or whatever, and it worked on my last storm

but my new storm doesn't do that it only gives me the option to make a normal a

also i can't recieve umlaut messages.

help
