My dad just called from 70 miles away. He told me the blu-ray player we have is playing regular dvd's but not blu-rays. He used it yesterday..and the day before that..and the day before that, for about 2 and a half years now (Blockbuster, nuff said). Anyway, he puts the blu-ray disk and it makes a noise, than the numbers 0000 show up and than it just stops. I have no idea whats wrong =/ And the dvd's are playing just fine. He is also asking if the blu-ray players have one or two lasers. He is planning on dismantling it, but i want to see if I can find him a simple solution before he does that.
I asked him to try one of my blue rays Superman Batman Public Enemies and it worked. Yet he tried 2012 and it didn't work. So I'm not sure its the lens. Than again I"m no expert.

Yes, most Blu-Ray players have two lasers. One is red, the other is blue. The blue laser simply stopped working, or may possibly just need cleaned. This could be a simple fix if it needs replaced, unless the two lasers share an enclosure/lens assembly. If you haven't already, try running a lens cleaning disc through it before taking it apart.
