Bluetooth range of an iPod Touch 4G?

What range can an iPod touch 4G reach? I heard like 5 feet. I want to know because I downloaded an app that sends messages to other iPod through Bluetooth (Bluetooth messaging app) it's called Bluetooth IM. I need it to message some friends in class during a boring class (reading) and we sit far from each other. So what's the range of Bluetooth on an iPod Touch4G? Please help me!
 
Around 30-40 feet depending on the objects around it and interference. Obviously the closer the better
