Broken Valve Spring on Jeep Liberty?

I have a 2002 Jeep liberty sport 3.7. Currently had a misfire in cylinder 4 which lead us to the broken valve spring! Bought a specialty tool to fix it and the tool ended up snapping. It was a miller tool that had fingers that went around the cam shaft (the fingers are what snapped) We were having a difficult time using that tool because someone had to hold it down while someone else tried putting in the new keepers..Once that tool snapped I tried the universal $20 tool from autozone and that just wasnt working either.
My question really is..is there any easier way? Should I just buy another one of those specialty tools or if anyone has done this before could you please help me out as to how to do it. Old spring is out ..working on putting new in.
