I burned a movie i made for a project for school, but when the disk is done, it says i don't have the recomended things to play it. It is on a DVD -R disk and the video is only about 40 seconds long. I did the x8 burning time. The rules state it HAS to be on a DVD -R disk. Does anyone know what I can do? I also made it on Windows Movie Maker if that has anything to do with it.
The exact thing it says is: "Windows media player cannot support this file type." and says try using a different file but i dont know what that means or how to do it. I cant open it with anything else either.

Try cleaning the lens. Dollar Tree has a disc for that.
Or get a Name Brand one.

Try a different burner. 70% of the time windows movie maker doesn't work for me

The above lines clearly indicate that you need codecs to play them. Actually codecs give instructions to the media player how to play video or audio files. Try download a file from the following website and install it, and then play it:

Click on the link and a download will start. Let the download finish and install the Codec Pack. After installing it is recommended to reboot your computer. Once you've rebooted, try playing it again. It should play it fine. Or else, try burning the video file another time.
