Buying an iPod from a kid at work?!?! Plz help?

I work at an elementory school and I am 18 years old..not like it really matters lol but I have been looking for an iPod shuffle for cheap and a kid at the school I work for said he would sell me his for 30 bucks cuz he just got a new iPod touch. I told him to ask his mom if it would be okay because I didn't want it to be weird and just give him money. His mom said it was just fine and was super cool about it. Idk is it weird that I'm doing this?! I don't think so but some opinions would be nice.. Thanks
 
I thought it was weird from the first sentence to the last but HEY if it gets you the ipod you want, do it
