I'm 17 and have been looking at cars to be driving for my first since I was around 12. In all these years, a Mustang has been my dream car. I know a GT would be ridiculous on insurance and in other ways, so I'm after a V6 so I can have a Mustang and drive it too.

I will be paying for my own car, but my parents want to match me dollar for dollar as an early grad present. My dad loves Mustangs as much as I do, but what car I can get is going to be my mom's decision. She hates small cars, and wants me in an SUV like an Explorer or a Mountaineer.

I actually like some of the SUVs we've looked at, especially the sort of luxurious feel of all that space. They are nice cars, no doubt. But after loving a test drive of a 2004 Mustang, I'm torn.

Should I get a Mustang, and sacrifice interior space for happiness, or get an SUV and sacrifice happiness for extra space?

mustangs are so much cooler, and as it is your first car, i wouldn't think you'd want something massive that would be hard to park, also you might want to think about how much they each are to repair as you are nearly guaranteed to crash your first car, hope this helps

Audi g6. Maserati grandturismo. pontiac solstice. try those. they're in the league for my choice of cars when I get my first car next year.

unless your planning on being a dad at age 18... or an owner of like 7 dogs.. what do you really need all that interior space for?
If you want your mustang go for it! and as for your mom, does she want you dead or something???

SUV's are more likely to roll over in an accident. so there is a huge misconceoption of it being safer. your stopping distance is less, your ability to swerve out of danger is less, your likelyhood of loosing control is greater. Also, being that you can fit more people into an SUV... an SUV full of teenagers is a nightmare for insurance companies and there are stats out there that prove that kids driving with more people in the car are more prone to accidents. The mustang, with a v6 will be way better on gas as well..
basically your mom is trying to get you into the least safe, most expensive, quickest depreciating vehicle she can think of....
