That is actually one of the reasons I stopped researching the Occult.
Self traing in the MA is one things, your soul probably isnt in too much periel if you train badly. How ever once you start playing with things u dont quite comprehend....well has any one read anything by H.P. Lovecraft?

I know I'm probably souding like a wannabe-occultist here, and no matter what I say, you'll think I'm just BSing my way through.

But let me tell you. Who created the rules of needing a Master to initiate you???

You are saying it cannot be done. I am saying it CAN be done, and it can be done very easily.

I am NOT being arrogant. I am simply doing something that is fully within my rights.

Mabye you and I practice different paths.

If you disagree, well. . . . . . good luck.

PS - on the matter of initiation. No, not an initiation into a rank, if I misstated what I said. it was only an initiation towards a path, thank you very much.

If you like, I could rephrase it, calling it an "dedication" instead.

And there are most definitely "rules" - otherwise you relegate your belief to a pastime that you can indulge in at a whim. You cannot simply say "I have my own authority" and commit any act you want against the law of the land (or you get people like me on top of you). Your soul/spirit/destiny/whatever is far more significant so how in the hell can you think that there are not similar "cosmic " rules to go with it? So yes it IS arrogance...and willful arrogance at that.

As stated before, technically Thelemic.

To bring things back around, there is a central core to my beliefs based around "Do what thou wilt" - roughly translated "Act according to your true self". I find it sits very well with my chosen style (JKD) and the doctrine of "honestly expressing the human body".

Dark Paganism (i now refrain from using the prefix "neo" as that seems to disturb people as well), which basically means an affinity with all things dark, shadowy, and such.

The path itself is called the "Dark Current."



I apologize for getting a little angry previously. No offense meant.

Anyways, all I am getting at is that the "myth" of having a more skilled practitioner to "initiate" you is nothing, well, more than a myth. Wicca itself (the most dominant occult religion nowadays) is not more than a little bit over a century old. There are no "ancient, legendary" practices that are "passed down" through the millenia, if that's what you THOUGHT.

Even in ancient times, when Paganism was most prevalent, self-initiation was present, from lone quests, to exposing oneself to the harsh elements of the wild. These are all considered "self-initiation".

No, I am not being arrogant. If I wanted to be initiated into, say, a Coven, then yes I would have more powerful members do it.

I can trace aspects of my belief back to the "mysterium" from Greece which are several thousand years old, so I would venture that qualifies as traditional.

I think we have been arguing/debating because of your misuse of the term "initiate". You CANNOT initiate yourself, or to be more precise be an Initiate at your own authority. You can declare a belief or offer prayers and thanks but you are never an Initiate unless you are physically (or should I say spiritually) initiated by a Master/teacher. To be an initiate means to be given access to those "inner" teachings not available to the general populace - how can you give yourself access to what you do not know? And book reading does not count for knowledge I'm afraid or else I probably would be the worlds foremost martial artist!

The phrase "affinity with the dark" alarms me. It suggests either a desire to bring chaos to order (in which case you represent my absolute antithesis) OR perhaps more likely it suggests gothic makeup, death metal and a desire to be thought of as "a bit different". On what basis do you believe that "dark" is in anyway wholesome? How is society or even the universe one iota better due to your contribution to it? Do you bash your chest screaming "look at me" or do you move silently and leave your work as soon as it is done?

Paganism/Occultism or whatever you choose to call it should be for the betterment of all - but only after an understanding of the self. Don't dabble, don't play, simply BE.

Darkness is but a path towards the Ultimate.
Light is but another path towards the Ultimate.
I simply chose Darkness over Light.
Is that so evil?
No.
Good and Evil are on different specturms than Darkness and Light.

Truthfully, the aspects of Darkness or Light is extremely deeply rooted in one's own soul. Hannibal, if you have a soul of Light, I respect that. But I have a soul of Darkness.

Neither overpowers the others. Neither is better. Neither is more dominant in the universe. It's . . . . . . simply a matter of affinity, and what you feel you belong to.

Infrazel, could you then please explain, in a short paragraph, what your path is? Hannibal has suggested a little of Thelema (which is just as well as it can be a little more complex). Do you worship a Pantheon, perform rites or magick, what's the point of your path?

A quick note on the difference between dedication and initiation. Dedication is the choice of a particular path, Initiation is an introduction to others. I would compare it to driving. You can learn to drive a car yourself (dedication), but you require an exam (initiation) in order to drive legally.

What exactly does it mean to have an affinty for "dark" over "light"
Is this like how in DnD they ahe order-chaos and good-evil?
Explain this more fully fore I belive many, including myself, are getting the wrong impression.

EDIT: I am very well aware of the dichonomy of life. You must ahve Dark to understand light and good to undetand evil and up to understand down and so and so forth.
but if by "dark " you mean those forces that dwell in the darker parts of the human mind and in other plcaes...well then I am afaraid to say many will be opposed to you.
Its one thing to acknowledge the "darkness" and another to follow a path deoted to it.

Arghhh. . . . . OK, I'll explain as best as I can.



I don't worship a pantheon, no. I worship the "Dark" gods and goddesses of various pantheons. Dark simply means they have an affinity to things such as the Underworld, Night, and such. Examples would be Morrigan, Anubis, Hecate, Osiris, and such.

The "Dark" Pantheon, I guess you can call it. I practice various forms, including simple rituals to larger, more complex rites.



You are again misinterpreting Darkness with "Evil". I assure the two are separate things, lol. For example. Animals of the Night such as raccoons and wolves. Do you say they are evil??? Absolutely not. Owls come out at night. Are they evil??? Absolutely not.

The same applies to people. Darkness DOES NOT mean you are depressed, unhappy, angry, spiteful, hateful, or evil. Think of Darkness on the exact terms as you would Light. The word "Dark" is always associated with NEGATIVITY. Actual darkness, has NOTHING to do with negativity, trust me on this one.

I doubt you would ever associate Light with negativity. If not, why associate "Darkness" with it??? Open your mind. It is but a word.

Wrong, owls are very evil, they took me from my real parent's as a child, and I got stuck with these ones, and had to grow up poor.
Just to think, I could have grew up in my real dad's house(donald trump)
makes me sad
I will never forgive those big eyed freaks...

So you seem to have a preoccupation for death and the after life. This seems to be the one common thread amongs all these entities. Unfortuately they also have other attributes, some I believe might clash. I also seem to see a hint of chaos in your choices. Is this correct?

Again, what is the purpose to your path and why do you mix and match so much?

Should I be honest about myself, then??? Why not. Dark Neopaganism is but a paradigm, one that I have chosen because it suits my beliefs very well, and one that I plan on keeping for life.

But that is a paradigm. My true (or untrue) practice is nothing more and nothing less than Chaos Magick Theory. . . . . I'm sorry if this sounds strange, but CMT is one of those obscure branches that it can't be actually proved, disproved, or any of that at all. . . . . . . it's wierd, I can't explain it. . . . . . but it is simply a theory, nothing more.

Anyways, yes, that does mean I believe in the eight colors, Chaosphere, "nothing is true, everything is permitted", the ability to dispose of everything religious in nature, and the ability to keep only those techniques and practices which suit my own needs and are practical to ME AS AN INDIVIDUAL.

Before you judge - please read "Liber Null and Psychonaut" by Peter J. Carroll. His explanation is much clearer than mine.

I'm a Pagan and a Buddhist - no conflict at all. Focus on your own mind and your own needs for worship and/or faith. Be a 'hedgewitch' like Poppy Palin (look at Amazon for books) or join a formal religious group that satisfies you. If it harms nobody else -go for it!
I follow a guru and belong to his 'sangha' (followers) because he has a lineage I respect and his teachings make sense to me. I also practise alone, as well as in groups, because I prefer it at times.

As for 'Thelema' etc., Crowley was a brilliant and charismatic spiritual teacher. He was also a child of his time, full of fantasies, and you will find almost all our modern 'occult' traditions stem from the esoteric section of the Theosophical Society, which then spawned the Golden Dawn, OTO etc. Blavatsky founded the TS and she based most of her teachings on Tibetan Buddhism with smatterings of Kabbalah.

In a nutshell - look inside your mind for real paganism. Use a method which suits you to access it. The rest is worthless words.
