Can a battery charger recharge several batteries in parallel at the same time?

I recently got a solar battery charger, that can recharge 4 AAA in 1 to 1.5 hours.
It can recharge AAA, AA, C, and D. (the bigger sizes take longer)
It is made so that only 4 at a time can go in it, not 1, 2, or 3. It has to be 4. 2 sets of 2 in series.
Is it possible that I could get or make dummy batteries, and run wires to more batteries, as long as the sizes and polarities are the same.
The idea is that if it can do 4 in 1 to 1.5, then it should be able to do 24 in 6 to 9.
I am asking because were I live, the power goes out a few times a year, and it can be out for anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks. I have several battery powered LED lights that take 3 AAA batteries, but batteries go dead after a while, so when the power is out for a week, they need to be recharged.
