Can a nintendo wii play divx dvds?

Can a nintendo wii play dvd5 or dvd9 dvds with divx videos? If not is there software from nintendo that can be downloaded like on xbox360?

Officially? NO... There's no support for it...

Unofficially? REQUIRES SOFTMODDING (WARNING: VOIDS WARRANTY) & using a homebrew media player (like WiiMC) to view Video files on your Wii. However, I'm uncertain how media players will handle DVD-ROM discs with the Wii due to minor hardware changes.

no, i am sorry to say that the wii cannot. even though i really enjoy the wii, i can't pretend that it is not less powerful than the 360. you can't download anything for it either, but if you want to watch movies, you can download the netflix channel (bu you have to have an account and its not free)
very unfortunate... but its the truth.
hopefully when nintendo releases the wii u, we'll be able to do it.
