Can an LS series engine be mounted vertically in a Fiero GT?

I was watching top gear and I don't really read up on supercars (I'm more of a pro-touring muscle kind of guy) and I saw that the newest ferrari has it's motor mounted, not transversly, but backwards. I have the fabrication skills to stretch the body to make the engine fit in but I have no how I could make the drive train work. All practicality and common sense aside, Is this even remotely possible?
