Can anyone help me with a faulty DVD player?

I have a Philips DVP 3005 DVD player that has started playing up - it suddenly refuses to play certain discs, which it's played hundreds of times before. It tries to load them, then says 'no disc'. These discs work fine in other DVD players, and mine will still play other discs. I've tried using a cleaning disc, but it hasn't made any difference. The DVD player is about 3 years old and I bought it new. Does anyone have any suggestions other than 'get a new one'?

Don't try this unless all else fails! It will either fix it or wreck it completely.

If it's a top loading drive, clean it out as much as you can with an alcohol soaked cloth and scrub the lens with a cotton bud soaked in alcohol. If it's a front-loading drive, clean out the drawer as much as you can, put some alcohol on the micro-brush on the cleaning disk and run it. If you haven't got anti-static cleaner, gin works as well and smells better.

Let it dry out before you put a DVD in.

Open it up and get a qtip with some alchohol on it and clean the LED that reads the discs in there. Sometimes they get dusty. Try to make sure its really clean, and has no fuzzies from the qtip. Hope that helps!
