Can anyone please recommend some kind of handheld electronic wordprocessor?

I'm afraid I really know nothing about these handheld thingys. I've of course heard of an ipod and ipad but that's about as far as my knowledge extends. Do these things do wordprocessing? If so, are they any good?
I simply want a convenient unit to write with instead of constantly resorting to buying countless notebooks to carry around with me. Any advice is greatfully apprciated.

I've had the same problem for years and have never solved it entirely satisfactorily. Currently I have an HP netbook (bought second-hand from Cash Converters for about £200). A netbook is basically a small laptop, lighter and less bulky, with enough power and storage to run a web browser or wordprocessing program. Check the battery life - they tend to run for longer than full-sized laptops, but they vary a lot.

I don't think I could recommend an iPad for writing with. They have an onscreen keyboard that pops up whenever you need to enter some text, which is fine for sending a quick email or updating your status on Facebook, but not very nice if you want to write a few thousand words a day. As well as that, they're dearer than most netbooks.
