I'm looking for a mountain bike! Have about a £1000 to spend! Can someone recommend a bike from these two websites? http://www.rutlandcycling.com/g/61/Mountain-Bikes.html

I would pick some of the hard tails. I don't like heavy bikes with suspensions, they are heavy and less precise, isolating you from the path. At the same time giving you a sense of comfort that may encourage you to go faster than you should in a rough terrain. I guess you need suspension if you are going to jump from the roof of your garage to the driveway.
I got a Diamondback Sorrento over 20 years ago and still runs fine, but mine was one of the earlier ones with no shocks. I have no idea how the newest ones perform.
