Can cell phone lines cross?

Okay so we have caller ID on our home phone. I haven't quite yet learned my dad's cell phone number, but I remember his calling earlier today s I just went to his number on the caller ID and pressed call. When it answered it was a woman. She said hello and I hung up because I didn't know the person. My mom arrived home from work literally moments after I called and I told her I called dad's cell phone and a woman answered. She said maybe you dialed the wrong number, but I am 100% positive I dialed his number! So, she called his number from the caller ID and he picked up. My mom is worried that he is cheating with the woman that answered. My question is, how likely is it for lines to get crossed? I called from the house phone to his cell phone. Honest answers please! Thanks

It actually can happen but usually it happens more than once like if it happened today then maybe it can happen more times sometimes the companies do weird things , sometimes they call me asking for some guy and i tell them they have the wrong number , and they tell me "no its not I was just talking to him from this number"I'm like whatttt???
Oh and when I call people on their caller ID another name pops up , pretty weird.
Try not to think negative because I think the lines can cross :) and if he was cheating I doubt it the lady would answer you know ...
