Can former bosses tell future employers about your medical condition?

While at my last summer internship I became sick a missed several days of work before I was diagnosed. I told my bosses what I had and once I got everything under control, my condition no longer effected my work. Now I'm applying to new jobs and using my old bosses as references and am wondering if they can or likely will tell any future employer exactly what condition I have. I understand that they will probably mention that I was sick, because that was the one thing that was bad about my internship, but can they tell future employers exactly what I have?

Don't worry,

Usually former employers will only reveal 3 things about you for fear of lawsuits,
1. The date you began work
2. Your job title
3. Your last day of employment

Sometimes a former employer might be asked if you are eligible for rehire. Answering that question truthfully is not illegal.

Good luck

An employer cannot discuss anything about your work history especially what disease you have. They can only verify the term of employment and tell them if they would hire you back or not. No details or they open themselves up for a lawsuit.

Only if it's documented in your employee file, as all that could be transferred and is legally allowed shared information between employers.. Other wise no.
