Can I get a Free texting number somewhere?(like with the iphone and android apps)?

I know there's apps you can get where you're given a number that you can send and receive text messages for free. Unfortunately, I don't have a smartphone. :( Is there a website or program that you can use to do this?

Basically I want to do the whole texting thing on postsecret community, but I don't want to give out my real number to random people. haha
also, I've been searching but all I have found are places where you can send message to other phones. My main thing is I want to be able to receive them first too.
 
You normally pay for these services (not much), about 25 cent per message received. Try to search for SMS Number on google.
 
you can use yahoo messenger. you can send and receive text messages using that. http://messenger.yahoo.com/
if you download you can use your yahoo email address to sign in and once signed in at the top click "actions" and then click "send sms message" then it will open a window and if you click other contact tab you can enter a number. it must have +1 in front of it for example. if your number is 123 456 7891
you would type it in as +1 123 456 7891 (you do not need to use spaces) it also gives examples when you click it.

there is also a website you can use http://www.txt2day.com/
it allows you to send text messages to a phone and if the person responds it will go to your email.

you can try using google voice. I can access it via my browser on my phone or my pc.
