can i install bluetooth on my desktop?

im thinking of installing a bluetooth on my desktop because i lost my USB chord. how can i do that? buy a bluetooth adaptor and put on the USB port? and are there any compatibility issues?

spec:
OS: windows xp 32bit
amd athlon x2 2.4ghz
nvidia 8600gt 512mb
