Can I keep my number if I switch to a new contract in Verizon?

Right now I am on a contract with Verizon Wireless with my family with my parents paying the bill. This contract doesn't end for another 4 or 5 months, but I would like to start a new contract on my own so I can pay my own bill. Is it possible to keep the same number I have now or no? Thanks!
 
They should be able to- just take it in and talk to them. I kept my number when I switched from Sprint to Verizon.
