Can I re-book a cruise if it is being canceled before paying?

I have payment left on my cruise reservation and can't pay it by the date they are requesting. Should I let them cancel and re-book it?

I had that problem last year and because of illness had to cancel the trip, because it was an early saver fare there were no refunds.
But two weeks before the cruise (10 weeks after due date) Carnival sent me a letter telling me I needed to pay, So obviously they will accept payment after due date
