Can i stay on ios 4.2.1?

Alright so im planning to get an ipod touch 4g and i know it ships with ios 4.1 but whenever you first get it you have to sync it with itunes and update to ios 4.3.3 which i heard is laggy so i just want to know if theres any way i can stay on ios 4.2.1 without updating?

That is a direct download link for ios 4.2.1
To install it, hook up ipod, and press shift while you click restore, to manually select ios file. select 4.2.1 file downloaded previously, and It will install.
