Can I use any brand of rechargeable batteries in my battery charger?

I have a Duracell wall charger which holds 4 AA or 4AAA or 2 of each. What I want to know, is if I can put a different brand of rechargeable batteries in that charger without it damaging either the batteries or the charger. For instance putting rayovac or energizer rechargeable batteries into the duracell charger.
