can i use my laptop as a router for my xbox 360?

Hey guys, I only have a short ethernet cable, and it does not reach my modem, but I have been told that if I connect my xbox 360 to my laptop with an ethernet cable, then connect my laptop to the internet, I would be able to play xbox live, is this true? can it work? or maybe you might have some other suggestions for me. :) thankyou so much.
 
You'd have the bridge the networks.
