Can i use Nokia E71 data cable with Nokia 6500-s?

I Don't have the data cable to my N 6500S phone so i borough a cable from my friend who has a Nokia E71 but the problem is when i connect it to the pc with my N 6500S, nothing comes up. Does this means they are not compatible? because fix perfectly, no significant difference from outside..... But nothing comes up. I was just wandering if something is wrong with my USB (micro) on the phone. PC USB port works perfectly.
