my family members? My hr representative at my place of work has recently contacted my aunt, whom she knows personally, to discuss my missing some days from work. My aunt then informed my grandparents, and then my mother and now I'm getting flack for it. I don't want this to happen again so I was wondering if it was legal for my hr rep to discuss things like this without my consent.
 
You can also be fired for missing work. Remember that before making a scene at work.
 
If you are under 18, they can speak to your legal guardian about it. If your aunt is not your legal guardian, then no, s/he cannot do that.
 
One of the consequences of a family member being a friend of your employers HR. It sounds like it was a part of a normal chat between friends? Not a thing you can do. Nor should you. Please accept the flak as a simple Cost of Doing Business. Your relatives always mean the best for you. Though at times it sounds rough. Nor will your HR appreciate you being a bit immature and trying to interfere with normal friendly chatting. Likely the HR means you no ill either.
 
There are some folks that have a duty of confidentiality. Lawyers, doctors, accountants, priests, therapists, etc. There is no such duty on all who are employers.
 
There is no law that says your employer can't make truthful statements about you to your relatives or anyone else. If they were lying, that might be different.
