They argue that a cataclysmic global flood is absurd and that it should be treated as a myth. This conclusion was not based on facts, instead on their atheistic beliefs. On the other hand, if one were to observe the physical evidence, then one can reasonably conclude that a global flood did occur and did alter the earth completely. The Genesis flood is supported by the fossil record, the stratigraphic evidences, and the archaeological evidences. Most people believe that the layers of fossils took millions of years to form, but this understanding of the fossils is erroneous and not based on facts. A gradual build up of fossils cannot be proven and if it is true we would still be witnessing the process. Dr. Guy Berthault, a geologist, has performed many experiments that show that a spontaneous layering occurs with a sand, mud, and clay slurry. He argues that the only explanation of these fossil layers, found in every continent, is a global flood.[1] Another evidence for a global deluge is the occurrence of the fossils of plants/animals miles away from their natural habitat. Fossils of warm habitat animals are found near the poles and marine and ocean fossils are found on continents’ interior mountains. In fact, 95% of all fossils are marine invertebrates.[2] This universal displacement and the formation of fossils clearly show valid evidences for a Noahic Flood. Similarly, stratigraphic (relating to sedimentary rocks) evidences also support the Genesis story. Ripple formations found in sedimentary rocks are very common, and they can only be formed by the abundance of strong water current in a wide area. Edwin D. McKee, who is the world’s foremost authority on ripple formation, summarized his findings by saying, “The chief significance of ripple lamination in the geologic record is that it is an indicator of environments involving large and rapid sand accumulation. Ripple marks on most tidal flats and beaches or in comparable areas where addition of new sand normally is at a slow rate, have little chance of developing into superimposed ripple lamination (i.e., climbing ripples or ripples-in-phase). In contrast, areas in which sand accumulates periodically but rapidly, as in river flood plains where sand-laden waters of strong floods suddenly lose velocity, are very favorable for building up ripple-laminated deposits.” [3] The Genesis flood could adequately explain the ripple formation on the sedimentary rocks. Stratigraphic evidence that supports the worldwide flood is the formation of coal, a sedimentary rock. Coal, has always been found with marine fossils and it can only be formed by rapid burial.[4] Even scientists who do not believe in the Noahic Flood say that coal can only be formed in a flood like condition. More studies need to done on the relationship between coal and the deluge, but the flood origin of coal is certain. Furthermore, Archeological evidence clearly supports the idea of a Global Flood. Civilization appears to have originated in the Aarat/ Babylon region where Noah and his family settled. This would explain the dispersion of Noah’s three sons from the Babylon region into the other three areas: Europe, Africa, and Asia. Also, the ancient artifact we have today date back to the post- flood era, indicating that materials before that time would have been buried by a huge flood. Another key evidence is all the worldwide traditions among natives of a global flood. From the Ancient Greeks to the Indians, from the Babylonians to the Irish, every culture has a story about God punishing mankind with a flood and a lone survivor.[5] The stories and the physical evidence revels a cataclysmic event that clearly changed the course of history. In conclusion, one can see the indications of a worldwide flood as described in Genesis by observing the fossil record, the stratigraphic evidences and the archaeological evidences.
