A very many devices allow you to change your MAC address, and there are many reasons you would want to do it.
#1 with a wifi phone, since you don't have a browser, you can't access browser authenticated sites.
If you can change your MAC address you can authenticate with one device (such as my iPod touch), then shut down that device and use the wifi phone on the iPods MAC address.
Please people, only answer if you understand networks and are sure of your answer. I am not convinced that the first 3 answers have addressed my question.
