I currently weigh a solid 155lbs and am 6'1''. I want to weigh around 180lbs to 190lbs. I was wondering if it was possible to gain size and hold a solid weight by just doing sit-ups and 'perfect push-ups' with a good nutrition + supplements. I cannot afford a gym membership at this time and am trying to improvise. Also I would mix in a good cardio and plyometric regiment. Any advice/criticism appreciated. Thank You.

you won't gain size by doing only pushups. you need to increase resistance in order to get stronger.

look to get an olympic weight set and improvise. use saw horses as a squat rack. do deadlifts. cleans. cleans and presses. overhead press. snatches. bent rows.......the list goes on. all you need to get big and strong, equipment wise, is a barbell and adequate weight. then you need to eat. A LOT.

actually i don't see why not. muscle weighs more than fat so as long as you keep eating well, and increase your exercising you should also increase your weight. My brother does sit-ups, push-ups and pull-ups every night, and occasionally goes for a run. he is in great shape. he has a 6-pack and very noticeable muscles in his arms and legs. i would recommend reading what is in your vitamins and other supplements though. a few months ago my finance and i noticed the vitamins we were taking had "titanium dioxide" in them which is apparently being tested for causing some kinds of cancer, and after talking to friends we realized its in a lot of vitamins including "sports vitamins" and "body building supplements" just keep working out, eating well and being healthy and you'll be great. you should stress too much over your weight anyway, as long as you look in shape and healthy no one will throw you on a scale to check you ; )

Good luck!

Don't do sit ups, they don't help you gain muscle at all. You should eat alot and do push ups and planks. Also if you have somewhere outdoors to go, do pullups and stuff. I have gained 20 lbs of muscle just from doing core workouts at home.

You need to work all of your body, not just the pects and abdominal. Sure you may get a little mass on the pects but don't expect much. Have any friends that live in an apartment complex that has a gym? Or you can enroll at the local community college and just sign up for strength training, way cheaper than fitness gyms and you'll get a workout buddy too. You can also ask the instructor about ways to bulk up.

No. Absolutely not. You will create a muscle imbalance by doing this.

Sit-ups are garbage. They work your psoas (hip flexor) more than your abdominals. Don't do them at all.

You need to train your entire body with a comprehensive set of exercises. It is easy to do this with nothing but your body weight. You could do push-ups, triceps dips, planks, side planks, v-sits, Russian twists, squats, plie (wide leg) squats, lunges, curtsy lunges, jump squats, calf raises, rows with dumbbells or anything heavy (cans of food maybe?), and supermen - this will target most of the muscles in your body at a sufficient intensity (we'll assume 3 sets of 15, or to failure) to build mass.
