Sandy is a very short little girl. All she could see were feet and the ground. She never stood out in a crowd. When ever she walked everyone kicked and pushed her around.

She always got lost when she went to the store with her mother, because of the tall shelves. She could never reach the top shelf for the cookies. She couldn’t open the door when her friends came over.

She always asked her mother, "Mom, why am I short ?"

"That’s because you pick your nose dear!" said her mom.

Sandy was just never satisfied!

It was a nice day so Sandy wanted to go out and thank Mr. Tommy, the guard of the swamp, for the ladder he gave her. "Mom, come and open the door! I hate being short I wish I was tall!" Sandy screamed. When Sandy stepped out of the door, whooooosh! Her wish was granted. Sandy was big now! It was wishing star day. "At last, what I've always wanted!" Sandy screamed. She was so large she couldn't fit in the house!

When she stood up she hit her head on the tree. Then she sat down and squashed her father, that was just home from work. "I'm sorry dear, you'll have to stay out tonight," said her mother. Her mother gave her a big blanket to sleep under. Sandy went to the chimney and said "Mom, I am sick of being tall!"

"Nevermind dear. That’s what's you’ve always wanted. Can you please clean the upstairs window while you're up there?" said her mom.

"I change my mind, Wishing Star. I wish I was short again," said Sandy.

"Well I am huge and I am living with it!" said the Wishing Star. "People are just never satisfied," said the star.

"I don’t want to be tall! I can't even fit in my clothes, or get in my home!" said Sandy.

"You don’t have to go home. You can sit here all day and smell the fresh air. It's good for you. You're a child and still growing," said the moon.

"How am I supposed to play with my friends?" asked Sandy.

"Oh you silly huge girl, you are just never pleased. You still didn’t give me a good reason," said the star.

"I want my mom to tuck me into my warm little bed, and kiss me goodnight." said Sandy.

"Oh, I suppose that is a good reason!" said the star. He granted her wish to be small again.

Sandy smiled and ran back home.

She knocked on the door.

"Who's there?" her mother asked.

"A little happy person," Sandy replied.

Sandy hugged her mother and waved the wishing star good bye. "I love being short."

It's cute the way it is. It'd be really good with illustrations too. It might sound a little cliche, but could it turn out it was a dream in the end? Or go through the nightmares of being too tall, maybe tripping over the family car or crushing the house? It'd be funny if she wreaked havoc on the neighborhood, getting tangled in the phone lines and stuff. Or maybe the Wishing Star makes it like It's a Wonderful Life and shows her how awful it would be - and then when it's back to normal she's glad? I like the idea of her learning patience in growing up. Good luck.

She could clean the windows with a flick of a finger! I like it the way it is! The mother was a gas!
