Can you put custom ringtones on...?

I was planning on getting a Rogers HTC and I was wondering if the smartphones (I currently have the new firmware Gravity where it had to be unbranded to be able to use my own ringtones) needs to be unbranded or can I use my own ringtones on the phone? Or do they have the same issue as my gravity where mp3 files won't work and I had to have specialized .dm files.
