Can you use a blueray dvd player with a standard tv?

I have a panasonic flat-tube tv. I was thinking about upgrading my old dvd player to a blueray dvd player. Would it be compatible with my tv or do I have to have an hd tv? I try and keep with technology - its hard though sometimes! Thanks!
 
It would work if your TV has scart inputs, (assuming your TV would - it should). Failing that, you can buy HDMI-Scart or RGB leads off ebay.

The pictures will not be in HD and are unlikely to improve picture quality at all. Considering how much blu-ray players cost, compared to how cheap DVD players are, in your situation id recommend buying another DVD player. Unless of course you are planning to buy a new HD tele shortly.
