Can you use a Verizon phone on a Telus plan?

Im buying my first car. Should i get a Ferrari or a Porsche?

I like them both equally and its hard to make my final decision?
 
I recently purchased a prepaid phone from Verizon, and I was informed by their customer service reps that I can use this phone on a different network. They were totally confident that it was fine. I am in USA for 8 months, and I have a plan with Telus in Canada that is currently frozen.

My Telus phone's battery dies in 5 minutes, so I figured I'll buy a phone that I can use when I go back to Canada. Is it possible that Telus will activate my phone on their network for my plan?
