Awhile ago, I bought a new SanDisk thumb drive. It comes with that U3 Launch Cruzer software. When I went to install it, I had the list of drives to choose from to install. Typically the thumb drives were always on one drive location. When I went to click it, Vista did the classic hang thing (as I forgot that it was time for my AV to update) and I hesitantly clicked on my DVD burner drive and Cruzer installed OVER the burner's drivers.

My first instinct was to uninstall the Cruzer software and re-install the drivers. There is no uninstall option as far as I can see for U3 Launch. So I powered down, unplugged the burner, thinking I could trick the OS to think I just put in a new burner, so I could get the drivers to install. Vista did not comply, and the Cruzer software reinstated itself.

Also, I noticed the burner drive only shows when I plug in my thumb drive (which works perfectly fine), and the Cruzer software runs the burner drive with only 6.67Kb available. When I unplug my thumb drive, the burner drive seems to disappear.

So the burner will not run any DVD's, CD's, or burn DVD's anymore. I even went into the device manager, removed the burner there, and upon a reboot again, the Cruzer software says with cheery enthusiasm, "Hi, your nightmare is still here!" I even tried add/remove software to no avail.

This has me really stumped. Is there something I missed, so I don't have to wipe the drive to do a total OS re-install?

Thank you in advance and I will really do super-appreciate your time to help me out.
