i have verizon dsl INTERNET service. i have 1 desktop computer connected into the hub part of this modem. i have 2 laptops the connect wirelessly to this modem. a few days ago the wireless portion of this modem failed. i can get on line with the desktop. i bought a new net gear wireless and route combination modem. it connects to the phone line just like the verizon modem. it also connect wirelessly. HOWEVER this modem needs to be set up to connect to my verizon service. i was on the phone last night with both verizon and net gear technicians for hours. verizon could not help and net gear got me quite far but they tell me i need a USER NAME AND PASSWORD FROM VERIZON i don't know where to look for that and the verizon tech people have no idea what i am talking about. when i go to my verizon connection page 192.168.1.1 i see my log on and configuration information. but i don't see any log on user name and password information. if i need to change any of my settings i use admin and password. but i use this with the netgear modem as well. i told the net gear people i use the same user name and password they use in there configuration area but they told me that was not the same thing.

when i log on to the INTERNET i never see the user name stuff come up until i get to yahoo. i use yahoo for my home page. i don't think this is what the net gear people are taking about. hard to understand them sometimes, but they said no.

verizon people have no clue. now in my area we have com cast cable or att, verizon dsl. i can't believe best buy will sell modem that can't connect to the area systems. people would bring them back and sales of them would stop.

now yes this net gear modem/hub/wireless unit is just like the verizon unit. best buy had them both and recommended i get the net gear because i was more reliable. and had more range for my needs. if i wanted another verizon unit i wold have got one then., now does anyone have an idea what net gear is talking about with this user name and password stuff. and where in the verizon setting page i can fine it. thanks
