cant connect to unsecured wirless connection because internet cannot be found help?

dsl is unavailable where i live so im stuck with dial up. theres always
an unsecured wireless connection within my range. when i try to
connect it saids....you are connected to the access point but the
internet cannot be found.

if its unsecured shouldnt i be able to connect? i got it set for it
to automatically detect settings, no firewalls or anti virus.

anybody have any other suggestion of how i can possibly connect?
i mean theres gotta be a way for me to connect right?

Probably your are connected to a adhoc network where some one use there computer as a wireless access point even without internet.
