Cant play HD movies on DivX player connected to TV?

My DivX player is like a dvd player that connects to the tv wont play a HD video i burned to a data disk, is there a way to make the video file not HD like convert it down to whatever?
 
use Total Video Converter to convert your videos into divx. This software is very intuitive and easy to use.
To get an optimal (at least without applying any filter to the image) use a video bitrate of at least 1500 kbps.
