Capacitor for car audio, yes or no?

I am getting a new system put in my car. It's an 08 Civic SI so the battery is slightly smaller than a normal car battery. The old system I had in it would dim the lights when the subs would hit. Now with a bigger system, would I need a capacitor. One installer said yes and another said that capacitors were 'alternator killers'. Let me know what you think, thanks for the feedback!

I've never heard of them being alternator killers but they may help to smooth out very brief transients. If your electrical system is already weak than a cap won't help you.

It won't make a huge difference but it's not an alternator killer. Don't have that guy install anything in your car lol. What a cap does is save up a charge from your battery and then feeds your amplifier for a while and gives your battery / alternator a break. I'd get one if I were you.

I got a farad cap in my car and it looks pretty when lit up at night and that's it.Your best bet is a upgraded alternator and a dry cell battery.Check out the 3 big three upgrade on youtube.
