if i were to get a sub for my 2002 honda accord, could i keep the stock speakers as well as the stock radio that came in the car? im wondering because i listen to hip-hop and when ever i turn the music up loud it starts to get distorted and i dont want to blow my speakers. i would be getting 2 10" MTX audio subs with a box in my trunk. would this be possible? and also if it is possible do i need to get an amp for the subs?

vote_usa, every single car i have worked on besides my 87 Fiero, had identical speakers in the front and back.

Karle, the stock radio DOES NOT push 50watts lol. MAYBE 50 PMPO, but not RMS. a high powered stereo would be pushing MAYBE 25 watts per channel. And stating that subs need 250 or so watts is pointless as well. granted, they will probably need somewhere around 250watts, but the power requirements for subs varies so greatly, giving a baseline wattage can cause issues.

Also, do not do as vote_usa said, with turning down the bass on the stereo and up on the amp... this will degrade quality. if it worked well, everyone would do it. turning up the bass boost on an amp will degrade overall bass quality. Get a cheap speaker amp, cheap speakers, and a cheap amp for the MTX subs. minus the subs, you could get everything for under $200 easy.
