Two 4 ohm subs wired parallel to get 2 ohm
or.....
Two 4 ohm subs wired series to get 8 ohm?
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
first 2 answers are right, josh went into detail, there are specs. called dampening, if u start with 200 dampening (speaker control) on an amp designed for 4 ohm mono and give it a 2ohm mono load you loose control of the cone pushing and pulling and weaken power handling,

i have seen cones moving all over the place and give low spl. and that can damage them.
if you stray out of the best specs say 2 ohm or 8 ohm on an amp that is designed for a 4ohm load you will either loose half the dampening, or 8 ohm. you will loose half the power.

each amp is best suited for a specific range, like a car, some are fast, some have better gas mileage, some have more towing capabilities, you cannot get a sports car to tow a heavy load, you can't get a tow truck to do 120mph easily, and u cannot expect an economy car to do much more then get good gas mileage.

8 ohm is rarely used in car audio but your situation there is a huge gap 4 or 6 ohm, 8 ohm will give you weak bass, 2 ohm may be a bit beyond your amps specs,
i would surely go for the 2 ohms, cause it is likely closer to what you need.
in the future give your subs and amps model # and ask this question again but 8 ohms is uncommon unless you add another pair to get 4 ohms.
 
The more ohms the cleaner the sound but remember each time you go up in ohms you cut the rms output of your amplifier almost in half... for example.
1000w amp at 2 ohms = 1000w RMS
1000w amp at 4 ohms= 600w RMS
1000w amp at 8 ohms= 400w RMS
RMS output is the sound output b4 distortion
Never buy an amp unless it is 2006 CEA complient
And don't shop by max output shop by RMS output
Basically once you find out what your rms rating on ur subs and amp are just match them up for example:
I have 1 mono amp running 1000w rms @2 ohms or 600w rms@4 ohms and two 12" subs with rms ratings of 300w
Therefor I would want to wire it at 4ohms first because my amp puts out enough RMS power to drive these subs at there RMS rating
Second because it will sound cleaner.
If I were to wire them at two ohms I may blow the speakers if I don't tur down the gain on the amp thus not using the system to its cleanest full potential
 
depends on whether you have enough power for having it wired on 8 ohms or not 8 would get the best result out of your subs but it requires more power
your amps power drops as ohms go up
1ohm 2000 watts
2ohm 1000watts
4 ohm 500watts
8ohm 250watts
get the idea
