car cd player has no aux but i found a phono wire at the back.?

i tryed to use this phono wire for my ipod via another wire with a jack at the end. the only problym is i can only hear my mp3 while a cd is playing or a radio station is playing. i tryed to find a radio station with no signal but the static noice is anoying.

does anyone know a way i can over ride the cd or tuner sounds so i can only hear the ipod?
