Hi I bought this car off a family member back in April this year. Its in fantastic condition and I can't wait to start driving it about. Now I've been having some issues in relation to insuring this vehicle, notibly the Total Premium via monthly payments. Now I am currently a Bar Supervisor at a Local Hotel, have held my license for just over a year but have not driven in that time period. I have had no convictions etc and my record is completely clean. However I'm 21, 22 in a matter of weeks, yet I have also have no NCB.

The cheapest quotes I have been getting are around 3k+ but thought I hit a winner today with a company offering me a deal of £500 deposit then 9 x 250 a month + the last 3 months FREE. Works out to 2,750. Cheapest I've found by far but just wondering if anyone knows a cheaper alternative to getting insured on this little runner?

Any advice would be appreciated. Many Thanks.

Were it not for the fact of your job your insurance would be a little cheaper as some forms of employment result in higher premiums. Doing what you do means they know you will be driving home later at night than most and that the car may spend a lot of night hours parked up in areas not as good as if you were at home then. Its not just you - they base it on what a typical bar/entertainment worker.

Other than that your premium is quite competitive. The last 3 months are not free, you have just paid for them in advance. In that last 3 months there would be no refund if you cancelled before the 12 month point.

The car is over 10 years old - this usually results in a higher premium than one approx 5 to 10 years old in the main because it is more likely to become a total loss write off with even a minor bump.

All you can do is shop around the comparison site, pick the best 2 or 3 and then ring them direct as that is where the best deals are - not on the net although they want you to think so because it saves them money!
