When you check a bag, do you take a purse AND a carry-on with you? I'm trying to brainstorm this and was wondering if anybody with experience can help. I travel light. I usually don't check a bag. This time I am going to check one small rolling bag. So what do you do for carry ons, I mean do you take a purse AND a carry on tote/small bag with all the stuff you want if your checked bag is unavailable? I'm sort of confused. LOL. Seems like I'll end up lugging three things plus a heavy coat. UGH. Advice sought. 
CORRECTION: I wasn't asking how much I'm allowed to take. I was wondering if others who do check a bag AND take a carry-on ALSO take a purse with them - is that convenient or not? I'm worried about lugging a backpack just to use the bathroom or grab my book.
