Hi, first of all, I've done my research and I have chosen to buy a Honda Civic. I've heard they have a great reputation for reliability, which brings me to wonder:

**Is a Civic with a high mileage but good mechanical condition worth buying?**

I've seen some pretty cool looking cars with attractive features (EX) and attractive prices, but the mileage was pretty up there (200 000km +, which would be like 125 000 miles..) The thing is, I've heard Civics were indestructible and could last up to 500 000km+ if well taken care of.. so I don't see the problem with buying a car with a higher mileage, right?

So, what do you think... Should I stick with the more expensive but lower mileage cars, or is it worth looking into the higher mileage vehicles also?

I bought my used 2000 honda civic when it had about 170,000 miles on it. I bought it for $3,400 which was $1,000 under the kelly blue book price, so I kinda jumped on it when I found the deal.
I would suggest bringing a mechanic friend along or someone whos good with cars to look at the cars your thinkg about buying. Have them take a look under the hood and make sure everything looks alright, also of course be sure to test drive it and listen for funny noises. I ended up buying mine from a lawyer (yes a lawyer) and it has a cracked exhaust manifold, which is about $300 to fix. Also, my wheels started making a funny noise a couple of months after I bought the car.So if the car has high mileage make sure everything works okay and try not to make a decision on the whim like I did.

miles mean little of shape any used car is in anytime when buying a used car follow a check list help keep you from buying a junk er type into search box how to check used car will get you a list

Ask for service records. If the car was truly taken care of, the owner would have kept the receipts for oil changes etc.
If they do not have the records, don't buy the car.

Car manufacturers have to make the vehicles to last at least 300,000 miles. If taken care of, they WILL last that long. I look more at the maintenance record than the mileage. Also, be sure the make and model can get parts readily....just in case.

Seeing as they actually can last up to 500km if taken care of....

200km isn't even half way through it's life span.

So how is it "high mileage"?

Think of it like people. The people that take good care of themselves, live to 90. Those that don't, die at 50.

People see others dying at 50, and decide that 40 is old. (this would be people saying that 200k is too much, only because their personal car didn't make it that far)

Meanwhile, the 90 year olds, just laugh at the stupidity, lol.
